A lot of universities are now wanting to install solar panels and save up on their power bills.
Universities run five days a week and run partially on the weekends as well. With huge land
occupancy their universities nowadays require a lot of power generation for all the blocks
and classes within.
One of the famous universities in Delhi previously known as Delhi College of engineering
and now known as The Delhi Technological University (DTU) is in the process of installing a
432 kW rooftop solar PV power plant on its campus in a bid to push its green agenda.
My green agenda refers to any moves that make the environment healthier and helps future
generations by saving them resources that they deserve. Likewise by taking this initiative of
installing solar panels on college rooftop they are not only saving and cutting down on their
power bills but also helping the environment turn greener.
The DTU plant will cover an area of nearly 7,050 square meters. And the electricity
generated will be used to power the electrical, electronics, mechanical, science and civil
engineering blocks of the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, said, “We are among the top engineering institutions in
the country so everything needs to be exemplary. It is in this pursuit that we have made it a
zero-discharge campus and a new appropriate infrastructure is being developed.”
Many colleges in Delhi inspired by Delhi technological University has now initiated the green
moment of installing solar panels and making use of solar energy by switching to this
renewable resource instead of depending on the traditional source of energy for power
generation which is used for various activities throughout the day.
Here is a list of a few more colleges who have moves in the same direction to build a worldwith a healthier environment-
A 218 Kwp Solar power plant has been installed and made to function in Delhi‘s renowned college called Lady Irwin college. This college is situated in Sikandra Road in the heart of the
city. The solar power plant installed in the college campus in my face will take care of up to
80% of electricity requirements of the college that was set up in 1932 .
Another college acting role model example for other institutions and communities is Rajdhani
College of Delhi University it is now going to be preparing to harness solar energy through
the 80 KV rooftop solar power generation plant installed on 7 July in collaboration with
Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited. Without a doubt this is a milestone
achievement for the college in the renewable energy policy which is put in place by the ruling
party of Delhi government Aam Aadmi Party, through which Rajdhani college will be saving
at least Rs. 1 lakh per month on the electricity bill. This project was one of the biggest poll
promises by the AAP government in which the whole project is funded by the party.
Amongst one of the most popular colleges in Delhi University comes Dyal Singh College of
Delhi University. It has installed solar power panels on the campus, thus becoming the first DU college to make this move in an effort to become self-sufficient in electricity production.
The college will reportedly be saving up to 30 percent on power bills.
