Green energy also goes as the name renewable energy is the energy that is generated from the natural resources present around us like the sun, wind, water, and thermal energy. These types of energies are considered to be clean and the sources from which they are generated are found in abundance. 

We make use of various systems and components like solar panels to convert solar energy into electrical energy or windmills to harness the wind or hydropower plants to harness the water. The infrastructure used to generate is considered to be clean. This means that they are environmentally friendly. They do not generate any pollutants and harm the environment.

There are various types of green energy:

• Solar power: This is the most common renewable energy which is harnessed by making use of solar panels which contain photovoltaic cells which capture the sun’s rays and convert them into electricity. The electrical energy which is generated is used to heat hot water, for cooking, and in some cases, it is used to power an entire neighborhood provided the infrastructure is massive.

• Wind power: This type of energy can be harnessed in areas that are of high altitudes and windy. Windmills are typically used to harness this type of energy. These windmills contain turbines that rotate which are used to generate electricity.

• Hydropower: Hydropower Plants are present on the banks of rivers or streams or dams which use water to generate energy. The force with which water descends is used to run a turbine with electricity.

• Geothermal energy: This type of energy is harnessed by making use of the thermal energy stored below the earth’s crust. This is typically found in hot springs which can be used to generate electricity.

• Biomass and Biofuels: Biomass power plants make use of organic waste to generate energy. However, this must be considered a type of green energy only if it is managed properly. Biofuels are made when the organic materials from biomass are converted into ethanol and biodiesel. 

Green energy is very important for nature as they are present in abundance as opposed to non-renewable sources of energy. In the past couple of years, the dependency on non-renewable energy has reached unfathomable heights such that we have almost depleted the sources of non-renewable energy. 

It is high time that we switch to renewable sources of energy because:

• They do not pollute the environment
• They are available in abundance
• They can be easily harnessed
• They can result in lesser dependency on non-renewable sources of energy

While the need of the hour is the use of green energy, it is also important to note that you must consider your geographical location when considering investing in such infrastructures.

A lot of areas see very less sun during the day and it is not financially feasible to invest in solar panels. Similarly, in areas where there are hardly any water resources like deserts, it would make sense to consider not investing in water harnessing mechanisms.
