Hydropower is a renewable energy source that is becoming of super high importance with the
global call to action for reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. Hydropower is by far the most
consistent and the most reliable renewable energy source of hydro projects and will continue to belong into the future.
Along with being the most reliable resource says amongst renewable energy hydropower is also one of the cheapest ways to generate electricity worldwide it can meet half of their
electricity demand it can also provide added benefits like being a clean energy source and
providing energy on demand all of this is while we create thousands of jobs across the globe. It is really a win-win when it comes to hydropower.
Hydropower is energy generated from water sources like ocean waterfalls in rivers. Now how
does hydropower renewable energy create power?
Since water in oceans and waterfalls or even rivers keeps moving and constantly creates waves its movement can be harnessed to generate electricity or to drive a machine which is how the power from these water sources can be generated. Water as you all know as an infinite source its cycle provides an endless recharge system making it a renewable energy source available on-demand in abundance.
Did you know that there are several types of hydropower facility is available and it all powered by the movement of flowing water which comes by either wave or due to the air flowing above these water bodies now turbines and generators are used to convert this water is kinetic energy or moving energy into electricity which is then fed into electric crates to supply at homes and businesses wherever the economy requires.
Very recently a new technology called micro-hydro is also increasingly being used in remote
areas to power homes and businesses and make the economy grow.
What is micro-hydropower? micro-hydropower lets small holdings generate their own energy
independent from large hydropower plants which require a river or ocean to make electricity.
Micro-hydro uses smaller water flows to run small generators that produce enough energy to
run home or run and on-site equipment.
Hydropower works by harnessing the energy that comes from the flow of water through a
turbine connected to a generator just turning it into electricity- this process can be done with
either a very huge water body like an ocean or smaller water bodies like rivers and fountains and it can also be done on even smaller water bodies where micro-hydropower gets into the picture.
The best thing about hydropower plants is that they can store energy generated by the
hydropower plant which is controlled by a gate or wall to measure the amount of water that
flows out. The logic is simple- the greater elevation of the dam the more energy can be
generated.
This way hydropower is gaining more and more popularity in recent times and is being
considered as the main renewable energy source that we should be depending upon in the
future.
