2021 has been a year of surprise for all up till now. It’s been four months into the year and
we have already seen so much change in the environmental situation. We all know how the
world was hit with Covid 19 in 2020. It changed how environmental health was in the first
place. The Environment was in very bad health, such that we almost thought there was no
way back to reaching its original healthy self due to the human activities rolling without any
pause. Covid-19 came into picture as a blessing in disguise in this case, COVID-19 put a
pause to the endless cycle of pollution and human intervention, it got the best of results for
Environment. It put a pause to all the human activities as much as possible and gave the
Environment the rest it needed. It rejuvenated itself in such a small span of time in a
miraculous way. The pollution decreased drastically when the roads were left free and empty
for days together causing close to no harmful emissions
, the industrial work was put to rest and caused the toxicity to take a break.
The past decades raised serious issues related to the environment and its conservation due
to various Human activities. Human activities like industrialisation or deforestation have
caused serious harm to the environment. It has deteriorated over the period of time.
To name a few challenges faced by the environment- Air pollution, poor management of
waste, growing water scarcity, environmental degradation, resource depletion, falling
groundwater tables, water pollution, preservation and quality of forests, biodiversity loss, and
land/soil degradation, global climate change, pollution and genetically modified foods are the
current environmental problems that make us vulnerable to disasters and tragedies, now and
in the future.
All of the problems listed above can cause us all a huge setback in the future. It can cause
people to suffer from various sorts of shortcomings. For example, we talk about clean water
availability for people today as compared to clean water availability for our future generations
to come. There is a clear difference in the availability of clean water in both scenarios.
Another point to be considered here is that today we are close to 7 .5 billion of us whereas
by 2050 reports say that the population will be close to 10 billion and that puts more
pressure on the natural resources providing us with it- water.
Sure these challenges are huge and difficult to deal with but if we plan to withdraw ourselves
from all the unnecessary activities in the world, the world’s health will become better and
stronger. Let’s together take part in making this world a better place to be in. This effort is not
just for Today, it would be for tomorrow and also for the future.
