As we all know the environment is not in the best condition presently. It has been
consistently being misused and put at risk by us humans in the hope of the betterment of our
economy and standard of living we have always put ourselves and our greedy nature first
and as a result have hurt the environment to a level which is now suffocating us. The
environment today is facing deterioration everyday. Climate change is the real thing and we
as responsible citizens need to take informed decisions to save the environment. We really
can’t take it for granted. If we don’t already know, it is where we exist. The environment is
like our survival kit. The loss it faces directly affects us.
The air pollution level is increasing every day, the water pollution being ignored, increasing
global warming, the melting of glaciers, increased noise pollution, different spread of
diseases – these are just a few indicators of how nature is hinting at us to stop ignoring the
very basis of it.
As we know the lands are split into countries. And a single country can neither break or
make the situation. It depends how countries as a group take initiatives. A group or multiple
countries together can either improvise or further deteriorate the environment. Several
countries are taking up initiatives to help the environment recover and heal itself of all the
pollution and mistreatment. Global environment performance index is a listing of all the
countries who are taking initiatives to make the environment greener and cleaner in a
decreasing manner. It lays down countries in a chronological order with respect to the
initiatives the country is taking for a greener environment with number one being as the most
sensitive towards nature and the country which is able to help the environment the most and
the last being the least bothered country, the one which creates maximum pollution and
does nothing to make it better.
India’s position in the Global Environment Performance Index fell from 141 in 2016 to 177 in
2018.
In 2020 India is at the position of 168th rank. It has come up 9 positions. Which means
leaving behind 9 countries in just 2 years, in taking green initiatives.
With initiates like the Namami Gange Programme which was taken up to clean and
rejuvenate the Ganga river by allocating Rs.20,000 crore to conserve and take appropriate
actions.
It helped the people living on the banks of the river to attain a sustainable and cleaner
livelihood.
A Green Skill Development Programme was launched in 2017 by the Ministry of
Environment Forest and Climate change. Green skills are referred to as initiatives that help
in restoring the environment to its original.
The government of India also took up an initiative called Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Which
means a drive for clean India. India’s streets have been known for the crowds and dust. The
Prime Minister was also seen sweeping the streets.
These are the various green initiatives taken up by the government of India. Alfa is a
company that also supports the Government of India. Alfa is also working in the direction of
making India’s switch to renewable resources instead of resources which are most likely to
exhaust in the coming period of time.
